Louisville football continues to turn heads nationwide with its 2027 recruiting class as the Cardinals recently secured their 12th commitment. Munir Lewis verbally committed to Louisville on Wednesday, April 22, marking the Cardinals' fifth Ohio native commitment.
3 glaring reasons Louisville football must extend Jeff Brohm's contract ASAP
The Cardinals have made it clear they are heavily recruiting two states: Kentucky and Ohio. Lewis committed to Louisville after earning 21 offers and ultimately chose the Cards over big-time programs like Ohio State, Michigan State, Illinois, Vanderbilt, Purdue, and Virginia Tech.
Following Louisville’s commitment from Lewis, the Cardinals' 2027 recruiting class earned some praise, as it was bumped up to the top five in 247Sports' 2027 Recruit Football Team Rankings.
Louisville football's 2027 recruiting class cracks the top five
Jeff Brohm and Vince Marrow have this class trending toward not just making history but shattering the history books. The Cardinals have been taking huge steps since Brohm took over at Louisville, but high school recruiting was one of the last areas he needed to improve.
Louisville isn’t a program that usually has a top-25 recruiting class, as the Cardinals finished No. 49, No. 76, and No. 63 over the past three years. However, Brohm and this 2027 recruiting class are looking to set a new narrative.
The addition of Marrow is clearly paying off, as Louisville swiped him away from Kentucky, and now Brohm and Marrow have this 2027 class trending to make history. The highest-ranked recruiting class in Louisville history was the 2006 class, which ranked No. 24 nationally. Following that class, the Cardinals ranked in the top 25 just once, in 2023, when they ranked No. 25.
The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 5 in the nation after earning Lewis commitment over Ohio State and others. The Cardinals are ahead of powerhouse programs early on like Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame, and right behind Louisville at No. 6 is Kentucky. The only teams ahead of the Cardinals, in order, are Oklahoma, Texas A&M, USC, and Ohio State. Â
Louisville’s recruiting class has landed multiple 4-stars, including Louisville native, Allen Evans, Kentucky natives, Ja’Hyde Brown and Jordan Haskins, and Ohio natives, Chuck Alexander and D'Angelo White. The Cards are landing these 4-star athletes over big-time programs, as Evans committed to Louisville over Alabama, Tennessee, Penn State, and others, and Brown decommitted from the 2025 champions, the Indiana Hoosiers, and flipped to Brohm and the Cardinals.
Obviously, it is only April, and there is still a lot of time before the 2027 recruiting class signing day, but Brohm and Marrow having this class ranked in the top five is sending a loud message, and programs are beginning to take notice of what he is building at Louisville.
