The Transfer Portal is here, and Jeff Brohm and the Louisville Cardinals are expected to go to the portal once again. Since Brohm arrived, Louisville’s starting quarterback has been from the Transfer Portal every season, including last year with Miller Moss. While the fans were quite disappointed with Moss and the experiment, the Cards are left with only incoming freshman Briggs Cherry for now.

Louisville football has already lost three quarterbacks to the portal, including backup QB Deuce Adams, who some fans wanted to be the starting guy next season. However, it feels like it was made clear that Brohm wanted to go the portal route again, as reports came out early December that Louisville was in contact with some of the best transfers.

Of those transfers, a key QB Louisville reached out to is Florida transfer DJ Lagway. With the portal now open, the Cards learned a bit more about the race as Matt Zenitz reported the early teams in the mix for Lagway include Louisville, Virginia, Missouri, and Baylor.

Lagway is one of the top names in the portal this offseason, as the former 5-star recruit is ranked as high as the No. 4 quarterback and the No. 11 overall player. Louisville is looking for that star quarterback who can elevate this program back to the ACC Championship game and try and take the Cardinals to their first College Football Playoffs.

With the four teams being UVA, Missouri, and Baylor, it certainly feels like the Cardinals have a legitimate chance of landing Lagway if they go all-in for him. Louisville is currently linked to multiple elite transfer quarterbacks, including TCU transfer Josh Hoover and Nebraska transfer Dylan Raiola.

Lagway has a bit of an interception concern, as he threw 16 touchdowns to 14 interceptions last year, and the year prior, 12 touchdowns to 9 interceptions. So, he will have a lot to prove in his junior season, but a player with his type of potential playing under Brohm certainly feels like a recipe for success.

Also, a former 5-star recruit who was ranked as high as the No. 3 overall recruit will bring in big names with him. So, if Louisville can land the Florida transfer, it would be a big-time splash and bring tons of eyes to the program. Lagway has thrown for 4,179 yards, 28 passing touchdowns and completed 62 percent of his passes in his two years.
