Entering the 2025 season, Louisville football fans knew Miller Moss would be the clear starter. However, the main question was who would back him up. It was between Brady Allen and Deuce Adams, two returner quarterbacks for Jeff Brohm. While Louisville never officially announced Adams as the backup, the redshirt freshman was clearly the No. 1 backup when Moss got injured and missed the game, and Adams got the start.

So, with Adams taking over the backup position and now likely fighting for the starting spot, that officially forced Allen out of Louisville and into the Transfer Portal.  Pete Thamel reported this morning that Allen will enter the portal, a sad but expected breaking news.

Brady Allen hits the Transfer Portal

Allen's exit from the portal is expected but still a huge hit. Louisville’s quarterback room is already thin as of right now, and now with Allen leaving, it leaves Brohm no choice but to hit the portal. Whether it's a starter or an experienced backup, Brohm has to get some experience for this QB room, with just Deuce Adams, Mason Mims, and incoming 4-star freshman Briggs Cherry.

Allen and Adams battled it out all offseason for that backup spot, and while Brohm never made it clear who the No. 2 QB was, the play time and the SMU game certainly did. Adams was always the first backup out on the field when Moss exited the game, and in the SMU showdown, though it wasn’t pretty, Adams got the start and led Louisville to its six points.

Allen played in two games this season as he went 6-of-9 against Eastern Kentucky for 69 passing yards, one interception, and 2-of-3 for six passing yards and one interception against SMU. The hype for next season centers on incoming 4-star Briggs Cherry, so hearing Allen hit the portal isn’t shocking, but it does make the QB room extremely thin and inexperienced entering the 2026 season.

Allen is the third Cardinal to hit the portal, as they lost two defensive backs in Destin Cheirs and Daeh McCullough.
