Louisville basketball suffered its first portal loss this offseason as the Cardinals learned their former 4-star commitment, Sananda Fru, will enter the Transfer Portal once it officially opens. While Fru had a solid season with Louisville in his first collegiate season, it didn’t go as the fans, or he, had hoped.

So, now with Fru entering the Transfer Portal, Louisville is in dire need of some help for its frontcourt. Louisville's glaring weakness last season was its frontcourt, as the Cardinals lacked a paint presence and physicality on both ends of the floor.

With Fru leaving, Pat Kelsey will have to almost start from scratch with his frontcourt, which sounds bad, but the most recent center to enter the portal should catch Kelsey's immediate attention as a possible replacement.

Somto Cyri is the perfect target for Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball

Georgia’s star center and former 4-star commitment Somto Cyril announced he will enter the Transfer Portal, and with Fru gone, Kelsey and Louisville should be all-in on this portal entry.

The Cardinals need a center who can run up and down the floor with Louisville’s fast-paced offense, and Cyril is the fans' immediate dream target. The 6-foot-11, 260-pound 4-star transfer is an athletic center who impacts the game on both ends of the floor, as he is an elite lob threat and cutter to the rim offensively and one of the best rim protectors in college basketball.

Last year with Fru, Louisville missed a defensive presence in the paint and physicality, but when watching Cyril's style of play, the Cardinals fans will quickly see the Georgia transfer is exactly what they are looking for. The 4-star transfer made the 2026 SEC All-Defensive Team after leading the SEC in blocks with 74 total blocks and 2.2 blocks per game.

He is the elite rim protector Louisville fans are searching for, and on the offensive end, he soars through the air as a big lob threat. Last season, he averaged 9.3 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting 75.9 percent from the floor. He is immediately one of the top players in the Transfer Portal, as On3 Sports ranks him No. 6 overall as of Tuesday and No. 1 center.

Louisville needs an athletic center who can dominate the paint and make his presence known, and while losing Fru hurt the depth of the Cardinals' frontcourt, Kelsey should immediately go all-in on the Georgia transfer and try to improve his center position.
