Louisville basketball's 2013 National Championship Title has been a hot topic in college basketball over the last month, following the Michigan Wolverines' recent criticism for their sign-stealing during their 2023 National Championship run.

Since the Wolverines received their weak punishments earlier this month, the Cardinals and all of college basketball fans have been in uproar about trying to regain their 2013 Title back, and the mayor Craig Greenberg and the university are going to "engage" in the conversation with the NCAA, per Payton Titus of The Courier-Journal.

Titus broke the news early Wednesday morning that the University of Louisville Athletic Association has this on its radar. The Cardinals' athletic director, Josh Heird, spoke about the situation and gave the Cardinals fans hope that Louisville will push for their original banner to be put back up rather than the one they have now.

"The situation, everything surrounding the NCAA, the landscape in college sports is drastically different," Heird stated. "The recent punishments that were handed down to Michigan. There's just a number of things that we can point at, I think, for us to be able to say, 'Hey, look, we need to engage in a conversation here about having the opportunity to have this banner up.'"

And it isn't just the university that thinks this, but the entire city of Louisville, including the mayor. Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio reported that the city's mayor, Craig Greenberg, is "going to work with University of Louisville to try and get its 2013 National Championship banner hanging again in Yum Center."

The Cardinals might have a long shot with this, but it is worth a shot. The punishment Michigan received compared to what Louisville received suggests that the Cardinals were dealt a significantly worse hand.

Cardinals fans are one step closer to demanding that the 2013 title be returned, but now it is up to the mayor and Heird to take the necessary steps to convince the NCAA that the Cardinals should be able to claim it. A lot has to happen, but one step at a time, and Heird appears to be taking a massive one by wanting to engage in a conversation.
