Louisville football fans, we are just two weeks away from the Cardinals' 2026 season opener against Ole Miss. The Cardinals and the Rebels are squaring off in Tennessee in the Liberty Mutual Music City Kickoff on September 6, in what is the only rank-vs-rank matchup in Week 1.
While Louisville opens as a 6.5-point underdog and many are picking the Rebels to beat the Cardinals, there is a lot of noise that Louisville can test Ole Miss and have a chance to pull off the upset. A lot of the attention goes to the Cardinals' two preseason All-Americans, Isaac Brown and Clev Lubin, and if Louisville wants to win, the Cardinals will need a big game from their Ohio State transfer and new QB1 Lincoln Kienholz.
Recently, Louisville held its second scrimmage of fall camp, and Brohm gave an update on the 4-star quarterback transfer.
Louisville fans gets exactly what it wanted from Lincoln Kienholz
Kienholz has only thrown the ball 36 times in his three years at Ohio State. However, he is a former 4-star recruit out of high school and a 4-star transfer from an organization that has had a ton of success while he was there, including winning the National Championship two seasons ago.
Now, he is going to be the main guy for Louisville, and Brohm continues to see Kienholz taking positive strides leading up to the season.
“I think he’s done a really good job,” stated Brohm on Kienholz. “He understands what we are doing. He is into it. He’s made some plays on his feet today; that was good, that was a positive. He is being a little more decisive and maybe finding some underneath throws, and not relying on his feet all the time will be important as we go forward, but I like that he is taking care of the ball and it is important to him that every possession matters, and he has been a good leader.”
Expectations are high for Kienholz, and a big reason is that he can scramble and use his feet, as Brohm mentioned. In his senior year, Kienholz completed 66 percent of his passes, throwing for 3,422 yards and 46 touchdowns, and rushing for 1,435 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Louisville fans haven’t seen a player with the ability to run and use his legs in Brohm’s tenure with the Cardinals, and now they will with the Ohio State transfer. Kienholz transferred to Louisville and was ranked as high as No. 136 overall and No. 18 among quarterbacks.
