Louisville football takes another big hit from the Transfer Portal as the Cardinals just learned that their backup quarterback from the 2025 season, Deuce Adams, plans to hit the portal. The Cardinals' quarterback room continues to get thinner as Brady Allen already announced he plans to enter the portal, and with Miller Moss graduating, that leaves the Cards with just Mason Mims and incoming 4-star freshman Briggs Cherry.
Louisville fans have been going back and forth on what they want to do for the 2026 season, as some wanted to start Adams and give him a shot at leading the team, while others want to hit the portal and get a star like Dylan Raiola. Well, it appears Adams made that choice for them as he plans to enter the portal, forcing Louisville to get their next starting quarterback from the portal for the fourth straight season.

Louisville football is going all-in on the portal for a QB
Louisville’s thin QB room takes another huge hit as the Cards are now officially forced to go shopping in the portal. With Louisville already in conversations with DJ Lagway and Dylan Raiola, it appears Adams has decided his future is elsewhere, as ESPN reports he is entering the transfer portal.
Adams started in one game in his first two seasons with the Cardinals. He redshirted last year, and in his redshirt freshman season in 2025, he was the backup to Miller Moss, playing in six games, including the SMU game, where he started and completed 12 of his 17 passes for 94 yards. In the season, he threw just 112 yards on a 71.4% completion percentage.
Adams was a 3-star commit in the 2024 class. He has a strong arm and is a dual-threat QB who has the ability to extend plays with his legs. With his departure, officially, the Cards must now search for their starting QB in the portal.
Louisville is reportedly in the mix for star transfers like Raiola, Lagway, and others, but since those big-time transfers entered the transfer portal, there hasn't been much noise around their recruitment. The portal doesn’t open until Jan. 2 and remains open until Jan. 16. Jeff Brohm has gone to the portal every season since he took over this job, and now, after Adams exits for the portal, it is clear the quarterback whisperer must attack the Transfer Portal once again.
