Louisville basketball has been anxiously awaiting a commitment announcement from 5-star Milan Momcilovic, and after days of waiting, the Cards fans finally get the crushing update.
Pat Kelsey solved a major Louisville basketball weakness with his most overlooked addition
Louisville was in a heated recruiting battle with Kentucky and Arizona for the 5-star, and the Cardinals were considered one of the two frontrunners for Momcilovic. Matt Norlander stated Arizona was a “distant” third team in this race, implying the Cards were in a fierce battle with their in-state rival.
Well, after days of waiting, Louisville fans got the heartbreaking update late Monday evening as the 5-star power forward officially committed to Kentucky over Louisville, according to On3 Sports.
Momcilovic was the top transfer available as Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals were trying to land the top two transfers in the portal this offseason. The 5-star transfer ranked as high as No. 2 overall and the No. 1 power forward, ranking right behind Louisville commit Flory Bidunga.

The Cardinals are still a top-15 team in the nation without Momcilovic, but if Kelsey were able to pull this off, Louisville would be a real push for a National title. The Cards have dominated the offseason leading up to this decision, ranking No. 1 overall as Kelsey landed six transfer commitments, including Bidunga and multiple 4-star transfers in Jackson Shelstad, Karter Knox, and De'Shayne Montgomery.
While it isn’t ideal to see Momcilovic commit to Kentucky, Louisville fans shouldn’t panic. This Cardinals team should still have the fans dreaming big. Louisville is ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation in Fox Sports' way-too-early rankings, and recently ranked No. 13 by ESPN.
It would have been a massive boost to this already loaded roster, but the Cards fans already know the roster Kelsey assembled is ready to compete in the ACC with Duke and Virginia.
