The Miami Heat made a blockbuster trade earlier this week, leading up to the draft, as they traded Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakučionis, the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, First-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a pick swap in 2030, and a second-round pick in 2033 for two-time MVP and NBA Champion Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis.
Ryan Conwell lands perfect NBA destination after blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo trade
While Antetokounmpo is, of course, a huge addition to the Heat roster, Miami needed to attack the guard position and grab some shooters this offseason, and their second-round pick, Ryan Conwell, has a chance to be their glaring x-factor this upcoming season off the bench and make an immediate strong impact.
Ryan Conwell's impressive stat should excite Miami Heat fans
The Heat are looking to be a real National Title contender, now with a dominant frontcourt duo in Bam Adebayo and Antetokounmpo. However, while that frontcourt duo is massive and should be among the best in the NBA, the Heat desperately needed a sharpshooter to space the floor.
Well, they traded up in the second round and got just that as the former Cardinal is coming off another lethal season from beyond the arc and has a chance to be special for the Heat. Isaac Trotter reported that Conwell was in an elite class after his college career ended, as he is one of the few who made at least 99 3-pointers in three straight seasons in college basketball. Two notable names on that list include Steph Curry and JJ Reddick.
There is a very short list of guys who made 99+ 3-pointers for three straight seasons in college. Ryan Conwell is on there with snipers like Steph Curry and JJ Redick.

Affordable shooting for a Miami roster that really needs it. Won't be surprised at all to see Conwell stick https://t.co/6tzKha2Sps
If you are a Heat fan, that certainly makes you feel even better about this pick, as Curry and Reddick, of course, are two of the best shooters in NBA history. Of course, that is setting a high expectation for the 37th overall pick if fans are going to expect him to have a career like one of those two, but it shows how good a shooter Conwell is, and that is exactly what the Heat need.
This past season with the Louisville Cardinals, he led the Cardinals with 112 made 3-pointers, and the year prior with Xavier, he knocked down 99 3’s on an impressive 41.2 percent from beyond the arc. Before Xavier, Conwell was with Indiana State, where he splashed 109 3’s on 40.7 percent, averaging 2.9 3’s per game.
Throughout his college career, he made an eye-popping 347 3’s on 37.6 percent shooting from downtown. He averaged 2.9 3’s per game his sophomore and junior seasons, and with the Cardinals, he averaged a career high 3.3 3’s per game.
Conwell will be Antetokounmpo’s best friend this upcoming season, as the left-handed sharpshooter should be a player off the bench who can catch fire and be a major spark plug for the Heat. The Heat needed some shooters following that blockbuster deal, and Trotter’s notable stat proves Conwell is poised to be a major addition for Miami this upcoming season.
