Louisville basketball is set to take on SMU on the road in Dallas this evening at 7 p.m. local time. The Cardinals and the Mustangs have a lot to play for, as both programs are trying to climb up the ACC standings and earn a higher seeding with just six games left.
These two teams played each other just five games ago, when Louisville won 88-74 after coming back from a 12-point deficit. The Cardinals win over SMU inside KFC Yum! Center started Louisville’s current five-game win streak, and after that huge win, the Cardinals have rattled off four straight.
With Louisville on this five-game win streak, Pat Kelsey was asked about his history of ending the season on a high note, and Kelsey made it clear this team is heading in the right direction and that he is excited for what is to come.

Pat Kelsey loves' how Louisville basketball is playing
Louisville started the ACC schedule slowly, losing three of its first five games and going 4-4 in its first eight, including a 31-point loss to Duke. The Cardinals had to regroup and find some answers, and Kelsey challenged his team after that loss and has now won five straight, and he loves where they are at.
“I love where our team is at,” Kelsey stated, if his team is March-ready. “When we got our butts kicked by 90, and everybody was throwing dirt on them, and now that we won a couple in a row, everybody is telling them how great they are.”
The Cardinals aren’t just on a winning streak, they are dominating their opponents. The Cardinals have won five straight, with four wins by 10 points or more, including their dominant 41-point win over a North Carolina State team that was fourth in the ACC, and have won these five games by an average of 17 points.
This Cards team is coming alive at the perfect time, and Kelsey made it clear he loves where his team is at. They have a crucial game with SMU this evening as they try to make it six straight. Louisville sits at No. 7 in the ACC standings, but it is one game behind Miami for the No. 4 seed and 1.5 games behind Clemson for the No. 3 seed.
Louisville fans also love how this Cardinals team is playing, and with key games against SMU, North Carolina, Clemson, and Miami still on their schedule, this Cardinals team has plenty of room to climb in the standings and NCAA Tournament seedings.
