The former Louisville Cardinals associate head coach Danny Manning was officially added to the Colorado Buffaloes basketball coaching staff today, as he replaced Rick Ray on Tad Boyle's staff.

Manning certainly has his spot in recent Louisville basketball history, as he was the associate head coach under Kenny Payne for 2 seasons with the Cardinals (2022-2024). Manning seemed to follow under Payne's style of coaching at Louisville, meaning that he was relatively quiet and kept to himself while he was on the sidelines for Louisville.

Manning was an assistant at Kansas and Maryland, while being a head coach at Tulsa and Wake Forest for eight seasons. Manning won 13 games or less in 5 of his 6 seasons at Wake Forest, and his lack of leadership and willingness to motivate his players was extremely evident then, and much more evident in his time at Louisville.

Manning could be good at Colorado in Boyle's staff, but his recent lack of success in the world of college basketball has to be an underwhelming hire for Colorado fans.

While Manning has "elite coaching experience" that doesn't necessarily mean that he will be able to develop that experience into good coaching. Boyle could use Manning in the right way in his staff, but based on his recent experience at Louisville it is not an exciting or well timed hire for Colorado basketball.
