The Louisville football team is less than two weeks away from kicking off their season against Austin Peay. They have a lot of new faces on offense, but they still think they can be a great team. After winning ten games in Jeff Brohm's first season, they feel they can build off that momentum.

Still, it's hard to replace all of the skill guys that they have to replace on offense. They lost their starting quarterback, running back, and top receiver from a year ago. They brought in some transfers to help replace the guys that those positions so that they can still be a good team.

At the receiver position, they are especially light. They just got lighter though because their best receiver has just gone down with an injury. Caullin Lacy, who transferred in from South Alabama and was going to be the number-one guy, will miss six to eight weeks with a broken collarbone.

Louisville football team will be without Caullin Lacy for a while

This is a brutal blow for the Louisville Cardinals. Lacy had over 1,300 yards receiving last year for the Panthers and was expected to be a massive part of this offense. Instead, he got injured in the final scrimmage before the season and will now miss several key games.

Looking at the schedule, the earliest possible game he could be back for is the Notre Dame game on September 28th. That's if he's on the six-week timeline. If he is on the eight-week timeline, he wouldn't be back until the Virginia game on October 12th. Either way, it's a massive blow.

The Cardinals need Lacy back for that Notre Dame game. They can manage against Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, and Georgia Tech without him. They'll need all hands on deck if they want to upset the Fighting Irish in South Bend. Having Lacy would be really nice for that game.

In the meantime, other guys are going to have to step up. Chris Bell and Alabama transfer Ja'Corey Brooks are going to need to be threats until Lacy can get back. It's a tough blow for the Cardinals as the season is about to start.
