There was a lot of hype going into Jeff Brohm's return to Louisville after being the head coach at Purdue for the previous 6 years. Brohm brought in a top ten transfer class and it was looking like the Cardinals could have a better season than fans had previously thought. Instead of a 7-5 season, it was looking like Louisville could win 8 or 9 games in the regular season.
All that was a fantasy at that point in time, but in order to get there you had to win game 1 against Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Georgia Tech would be in year 1 under Brent Key as a head coach and not the interim. Tech would go on to have a 7-6 record in 2023 with a win over UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl, and was a decent team overall in the ACC. You saw glimpses of that in the game against Louisville as Georgia Tech outscored Louisville 28-7 in the 2nd quarter.
Tech did whatever they wanted to the Cardinals in the first half offesnively, and the Louisville offense was strugglong to find its footing with Jack Plummer playing quarterback. Which would be the first time in 4 years that Louisville had a new starting quaterback.
Louisville split open the game in the 2nd half when Louisville went on a 26-0 scoring run, where it was capped off by a 74 yard touchdown run by Jawhar Jordan.
This game showed how good of a coach Jeff Brohm could be by coming back and getting his team in order for a 2nd half in which the Cardinals completely dominated. While the game also showed some of the promise of how good some of these players could be, but it also showed some of the faults like Jack Plummer and the lack of some receiver talent.
It was a good start to the Jeff Brohm era, and resulted in a 1-0 start for Brohm in Louisville.
