The Louisville football team was hoping to be ready for Week 1 against Austin Peay. The Cardinals had to replace their quarterback, top rusher, and top receiver from last year, so things were still in flux. They needed to make sure that the offense was going to be up to snuff.

I think it's safe to say that the offense was indeed up to snuff. The Cardinals scored in bunches in the first half, scoring 31 points early. We were worried about who might end up being the top receiver with Caullin Lacy out for a month. That answer was given very early.

Ja'Corey Brooks took over that role. He was Tyler Shough's favorite target in this game and he was the one who was able to get open the most often. It seems like even when Lacy gets back that Brooks will be the focal point of the passing game.

The defense looked as good as ever. That wasn't the part that Louisville Cardinals fans were concerned about. The defense is going to be able to keep the Cardinals in games all year long. How explosive the offense was going to be was the question.

Surprisingly, the Cardinals spread around carries in the run game. With Donald Chaney out, the Cardinals had to find others to carry the load. The Cardinals were able to score points mostly utilizing the passing game, which is good news for some games they have to play next month.

It was a good start for the Cardinals. Hopefully, they can build off this win and keep making big plays on offense. They take on Jacksonville State next week and that should be another big win for the Cardinals. This was certainly a good start to the 2024 college football season.
