The Louisville football team played for the ACC Championship last year. They were one of the surprise teams in college football. They did end the season on somewhat of a sour note after losing their final three games of the year. Still, they won 10 games in Jeff Brohm's first year.

The Cardinals still think they can compete this season. While they were picked to finish fifth in the ACC, they think they can get back to the ACC Championship. Louisville will have a new starting quarterback and a few new offensive line starters, but they still are a solid defensive team.

On Monday, the preseason coaches poll came out. The Louisville Cardinals were not in the top 25. It's somewhat of a surprise, although not based on the preseason ACC voting. Looking at the poll, the coaches don't seem to have a lot of respect for the conference as a whole.

The highest-ranked ACC team is Florida State all the way down at 10th. Clemson sits at 14th, Miami is at 19th, and NC State is at 22nd. That gives the conference four total top 25 teams. The good news for Louisville football fans is that they are second in the "other teams receiving votes".

That effectively makes the Cardinals the 27th-ranked team in the preseason poll. Washington sits just ahead of them. If the Cardinals win their first few games, they should find themselves in the top 25 in now time. The Louisville football team might be ranked in the AP Poll when that comes out.

As far as the schedule goes, the Cardinals will take on three ranked teams. Notre Dame is the highest-ranked of those squads, coming in at seventh in this preseason poll. They will also take on Clemson and Miami. Overall, the schedule isn't too bad.

That's a big reason why Louisville feels they can get back to the ACC Championship Game.
