The Louisville football team starts the season on Saturday afternoon. They are ready to show that they can be even better in the second season of Jeff Brohm leading the team than they were last season. Winning ten games was pretty impressive, but the Cardinals think they can be even better.

They start the season by taking on Austin Peay. The Governors come into the game as massive underdogs. The Cardinals still have to go out and win the game. Brohm is going to preach that it's a one-game-at-a-time mentality with this team. It doesn't matter who they're playing.

This game also could get squirrely if the weather forecast continues to look the way that it does. If that happens, Louisville will have to buckle down and really make sure that they execute well. Still, there shouldn't be any concern that they're going to lose.

There are three players that Louisville football fans should watch in this game. This is so they can see how good these guys are going be for the rest of the season once the schedule starts to get a little tougher. The first two games should be pretty easy though.

The first player to watch is the new starting quarterback.

1. Tyler Shough

The Cardinals now have a new starting quarterback in Tyler Shough. Shough is at his third different school in his career. This is his last chance to lead a program and be a starter. In his sixth year of eligibility, he's hoping to finally stay healthy and have a good year.

Health is the key for Shough. He hasn't been able to stay healthy for an entire season yet. When he has been healthy, he's actually been pretty good. The most games he's ever played in a season is seven. If the Cardinals reach all of their goals, he'll need to play twice that amount this year.

How Shough looks in the opener will give the Cardinals a look at what they will be getting for the rest of the season. It will also be interesting to see who he's able to build chemistry with. The receivers on this team need to make sure that someone in that group steps up.

I think Shough will play well against Austin Peay. I think he's able to throw it well and he should throw for at least three touchdowns. Shough is talented, there's no denying that. He just has to put it all together and stay on the field. Him emerging healthy from this game is victory enough.

The second player to watch in this game is also another transfer player who will be a key to the offense.
