The Louisville football team is replacing all of their major skill players from a year ago. They lost their top passer, rusher, and receiver. That makes things harder when you are trying to build off a great first year under a new head coach. That's especially true with a new quarterback.

Jack Plummer is now with the Carolina Panthers fighting for a roster spot. The Cardinals will now be led by Tyler Shough, who transferred in. This will be the third and final program for Shough as he was previously at Texas Tech and Oregon before heading to Louisville this year.

Shough has started in portions of three different seasons over his career, but he's never started for a full season. The shortened COVID year is the only year he did, but the Pac-12 played just four regular season games. He's played in five collegiate seasons, so that's not exactly comforting for Louisville football fans. So what should we expect from Shough this year?

What has kept Shough from being able to start for a full season in the past? Injuries have been the main culprit. He suffered three different injuries while at Texas Tech. He broke his collarbone, hurt his left shoulder, and broke his leg in three consecutive seasons.

So what makes Louisville Cardinals fans think that this year would be any different? How can they be sure that he will be able to keep himself healthy and not be injury-prone again? The simple answer is, they can't. While some of the injuries he had were fluky, it's clearly a trend with him.

If Shough does stay healthy throughout the season, he can be an effective passer. He looked good while he was with the Red Raiders, he just couldn't stay on the field. If he can stay on the field, the offense should still be able to move up and down the field despite the changes.
