Louisville is a Finalist for 5-Star Guard Jasper Johnson
By Caleb Hall
Pat Kelsey has been hard at work assembling the roster for Louisville basketball next season through the transfer portal, but on wednesday 5-star Jasper Johnson revealed his top 7 schools, and Louisville made the cut.
Johnson seemed as if he was a lock for Kentucky just a month ago, but after the shakeup with John Calipari being replaced with Mark Pope his recruitment has seemingly opened up a lot more than it was.
Kenny Payne offered Johnson back in January of this year but he never officially visited Louisville. This was likely because there were more fans at his high school games than there were at Louisville games in January this year. However, Kelsey reached out to Johnson and he has put Louisville in his top 7.
This may all be for nothing however, as Johnson is the son of former Kentucky basketball star Dennis Johnson, and he likely has been pushed to go to UK since he picked up a basketball.
The seven schools that Johnson has at the top of his list are Auburn, Kentucky, North Carolina, Louisville, Baylor, Arkansas and Alabama. Arkansas, Kentucky, and UNC seem to the leaders in Johnson's recruitment, but, just like we saw with Jayden Quaintance's recruitment, anything can happen and anything can change in a matter of hours.
If Pat Kelsey could land Johnson it would be a huge commitment for Louisville, not only for roster reasons, but to send a message to the rest of college basketball saying "Louisville basketball is back and we're not going away."
Only time will tell where Johnson will land, but if Kelsey can land a top ten recruit from Lexington then talk will be booming in downtown Louisville.
