Pat Kelsey has been delving deep into the transfer portal at Louisville since he has taken the job, but this weekend he is looking to lock in his first freshman for the 2024 class. As Louisville will host 4-star prospect Khani Rooths according to Travis Branham of 247sports:
Rooths was formerly commited to Michigan, but after the departure of Juwan Howard this offseason he decided to decommit from the Wolverines and reopen his commitment. Rooths had offers before his commit from other major schools like Florida State, Indiana, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Maryland, Miami, USF, and Xavier to name a few.
Rooths is a 6-foot 8-inch 200-pound power forward out of Bradernton, Florida. While Rooths also played in the IMG Academy last year. According to 247sports Rooths also ranks as the 31st overall player, 6th best power forward, and 8th best player out of Florida in the 2024 class.
It is reported that Rooths should arrive in Louisville on Friday and likely leave towards the latter part of the weekend.
Rooths would be a huge get for Pat Kelsey in his first year at Louisville, as the Cardinals are in need of more big men on roster and Rooths would fit that bill. Louisville currently has a deep rotation of combo guards and wing players, and what Kelsey needs to put his focus into is getting more players that defend and rebound down low. While Rooths isn't a pure center he would be a good start in developing a frontcourt for Kelsey and Louisville in 2024.
