The Louisville football program is going backward

After another loss, the Louisville football program is going backward after a promising season in 2023.

The Louisville football program has now lost two straight games. After losing in South Bend to Notre Dame, they came back home and lost to SMU. That's consecutive losses for a team that looked like they had a real shot to win the ACC. Instead, they fall to 1-1 in ACC play.

Losing to SMU doesn't completely bury them. They still have an outside shot to win the ACC and complete their goals, but this loss makes it a lot harder. They've forced themselves to be perfect the rest of the way. It's a problem that this team is now just 3-2 after starting out 3-0.

Jeff Brohm was supposed to improve this team in year two. After winning nine of the first ten games of the year in 2023, they lost their final three. In Brohm's last eight games, the Cardinals are now just 3-5. That's not the direction this program should be going. They're going backward.

The Louisville football program is not moving in the right direction

It was always going to be tough to live up to what Brohm did in 2023. Playing for a conference title in his first year as head coach is incredible. Doing that for a second year in a row is incredibly difficult. Still, there should be signs that the program is moving in the right direction.

Those last eight games aren't promising. The loss to Notre Dame was a lot of stupid turnovers. Falling to SMU is something that is inexcusable, considering the fact that the game is at home and the Mustangs' defense is poor. That falls on the coaching the Louisville Cardinals are getting,

Brohm's poor recruiting doesn't leave a lot of promise for this program in the coming years. I'm still not sure what his plan is for the future of the Cardinals. Louisville football fans hope that whatever that plan works, it starts working soon.
