The Louisville football team has one shot to save their season
By Ryan Stano
The Louisville football team is at a crossroads. The Cardinals are coming off two straight losses. One of those was a non-conference matchup with Notre Dame. That loss wasn't as damaging because it was on the road to an opponent that has nothing to do with the ACC.
However, then the Louisville Cardinals lost to SMU on Saturday. That loss is significantly more damaging, considering the fact that the Mustangs are in the ACC. Now, Louisville is just 1-1 in the ACC without having played their two toughest conference opponents.
It looks bleak for the Cardinals right now. However, they still have a chance to salvage their season. They came into the season with the goal of playing for an ACC title again and that is still within reach, even if it might be a bit far-fetched. They still have a shot to complete that goal and more.
How the Louisville football team can salvage their season
The only chance that Louisville has of salvaging their season is if they run the table from here. Doing that would give them an invite to play for the ACC Championship. That's the only way that they have a chance to make the College Football Playoff because they won't get an at-large bid.
That's a tall task, though. The Louisville football team still has to play Clemson and Miami. It's clear the referees in the ACC want the Hurricanes to win the conference with what they have done for them in the last couple of weeks. That game is going to be very hard for them to win.
Winning out from here is not going to be an easy feat. Jeff Brohm would certainly earn his money if he could accomplish that. It would be one of the most improbable comebacks in college football.
