The Louisville football team fell to Notre Dame on Saturday 31-24. It was a very disappointing loss considering the fact that the Cardinals out-gained the Fighting Irish 437-283 in terms of yardage. They moved the ball up and down the field and really only stopped themselves.
Those stupid mistakes are what ultimately led to the Louisville Cardinals losing their first game of the season. This spoiled the debut of Caullin Lacy, who finally played after breaking his collarbone in mid-August. He played well too, catching five passes for 71 yards.
Despite losing this game, not all is lost for the Cardinals. All of their goals are still out in front of them. This was the final non-conference game of the season, so it doesn't affect their ability to win the ACC and get the automatic bid for the College Football Playoff.
All of the Louisville football team's goals can still be accomplished
There are still some hurdles for Louisville to clear in their schedule. They still have to face both Miami and Clemson. Both teams are playing well, although the Hurricanes needed the refs to steal them a win on Thursday night against Virginia Tech. Neither of those games will be easy to win.
The Cardinals can likely only afford one more loss to keep themselves in a chance to make the ACC Championship Game. It also depends on who that loss comes to. If it's to Miami or Clemson, that makes things a little tougher. Those two teams are the main competition to win the conference.
Yes, the loss was disappointing. Yes, this Louisville football team still has things they need to work on. That doesn't mean that the season is over by any stretch. It's ACC games from here on out. Winning those games keeps all of their goals in front of them to achieve.
