The Louisville Cardinals have not had a good 2023-24 campaign, as they currently sit at 8-19 and having a pitiful 3-13 conference record in the ACC. Payne has led the Cardinals to just 12 wins in his 2 season here, and it is looking more and more likely everyday that he will be let go when the season ends in mid March. However, there is one thing that could prevent that from happening:

Making the NCAA Tournament.

This would be a huge feat for Kenny Payne's squad and it would take a few miracle games for it to happen.

While Louisville is nowhere near getting an at-large bid at this point in the season, they could still get an automatic bid by winning the ACC tournament in March. Louisville would have to win 5 straight games in the ACC tournament to get that bid, and would need to win 5 games in 5 straight days to do so.

It would take a miracle for Louisville to get anywhere close to playing postseason basketball, but crazier things have happened in Louisville sports. It just seems very unlikely with Kenny Payne still at the helm of Louisville basketball.
