Recently, the Louisville basketball program stunned the entire college basketball world when the Cardinals secured a commitment from a former G League player. This has never been done before: someone playing three seasons in a professional league like the G-League and then committing to a college.
The entire college basketball world is outraged, not necessarily with the Louisville Cardinals for earning London Johnson's commitment, but rather with the NCAA. Johnson committed to Louisville on Oct. 20, and ever since, coaches, players, and fans have held nothing back.
The latest coach to talk on the situation is Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo. The Hall of Famer was asked about it earlier this morning, and the head coach took a massive shot at the NCAA.
Tom Izzo takes shot at the NCAA over Louisville's recent commitment
Izzo has shown he isn't one to be shy and afraid to voice his opinions. Louisville's recent commitment took the nation by storm, and Izzo made sure the NCAA heard his opinion on this bizarre situation.
"I'm going to get myself in trouble," Izzo began his statement with, "This was sprung on us again yesterday, where a guy can be in the G-League for two or three years and then all of a sudden he is eligible. Most of my people knew nothing about it. I am not real excited about the NCAA or whoever is making these decisions without talking to us and just letting it go because they are afraid they are going to get sued."
"To me, it's ridiculous. To me, it's embarrassing."

Izzo didn't hold back one bit and is clearly not a fan of where college basketball is heading. Many fans share the same sentiment when they browse through social media comments. Izzo then started making jokes about calling some of his former Spartan players, but took another massive shot at the higher-ups in the NCAA.
"So this really bothers your coach if you are Michigan State fans," Izzo stated. "But if you want a silver lining in a cloud, I am going to call Magic tonight. I am going to call Jaron Jackson, Miles, Gary, Max. This just goes to show how ridiculous people who are in power make decisions."
Izzo went on another rant about the meaning of college basketball and how this will affect high school players. He thinks that now, that if teams can acquire players from the G-League, this will affect high school seniors, and he isn't wrong.
"To me it is ridiculous. To me it is embarrasing. I love my job, but i don't respect my profession." Izzo stated.
Izzo is just the first coach to light up the NCAA, and it can only be assumed that many others will do the same. College basketball is changing, but Izzo's message at the end was, where do we draw the line? He feels the NCAA has no rules, and now it has just gotten even worse.

As for Louisville, Johnson will join the team mid-year this season, but won't be eligible until the 2026-27 season. Johnson is the Cards' first commitment for the 2026 class.
