Louisville basketball fans are eager for the 2026-27 college basketball season, as the Louisville Cardinals are expected to be among the top programs in the nation. For the second straight offseason, Pat Kelsey has this Cardinals program buzzing with excitement.
Vegas oddsmakers send clear message on Louisville basketball's 2027 title chances
Louisville had to completely rebuild its roster after losing nine of its top 10 players, including future NBA Draft lottery pick Mikel Brown Jr. Kelsey was able to rebuild the roster, and he did a phenomenal job, and with the Cardinals dominating the offseason, that, of course, sparked the rivalry with Kentucky.
Both programs have been going back and forth all offseason, debating who has the better squad. However, FanDuel recently released its latest 2027 NCAA Title odds, and the Vegas oddsmakers just said the quiet part out loud.
Latest National Title odds sends loud Louisville-Kentucky message
The Cardinals and the Wildcats secured the top two portal classes in the nation, putting both teams back in the top 25 for almost every way-too-early ranking. However, Vegas oddsmakers just revealed who is better of the two, as they currently have Louisville at +2200 to win the 2027 National Championship, and Kentucky is significantly further behind the Cardinals at +4500.
These two fan bases have been going back and forth for the majority of the offseason, but it really took off after Mark Pope landed 5-star transfer Milan Momcilovic. However, Louisville landed the No. 1 overall transfer in Flory Bidunga and has multiple former 5-stars on its roster in Karter Knox, Jackson Shelstad, and 2026 5-star Obinna Ekezie Jr.
The offseason is showing the nation why this rivalry is one of the best in college basketball, and the Cards and Cats fans are just counting down the days to tip-off. However, FanDuel is sending a loud message about who they believe is better, and Louisville fans get more early bragging rights over Kentucky.
The Cards' +2200 odds are tied for the sixth-best odds in the nation to win the 2027 National Championship, while Kentucky's +4500 odds are the 23rd-highest odds to win the national championship. And while Kentucky fans want to argue that they are better than Louisville, right now, it's a consensus that puts Louisville ahead of Kentucky in way-too-early rankings.
Fox Sports ranked Louisville as high as No. 5 in its way-too-early rankings, and the rest of the rankings have Louisville as a unanimous top-15 team in the nation. At the same time, Kentucky is trending in the back half of the top 25, ranked anywhere from 15-25.
Joe Lunardi released his first way-too-early bracketology, and the Cardinals are projected as the No. 2 seed, while Kentucky is the No. 5 seed. So, as of right now, everyone is picking Kelsey and Louisville over Pope and Kentucky, and the Vegas oddsmakers just made that clear.
