Over the past 48 hours, the main topic surrounding Louisville football has been Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm and his contract extension. In the offseason, Brohm was one of the hottest names going around, as it was being reported that Brohm was a target for many Power Four programs like Penn State and Michigan.

However, Brohm stayed loyal to his alma mater and his hometown. On3 Sports reported in early November that Louisville was working on a contract extension to keep Brohm with the Cardinals, but since then, Louisville fans have heard nothing about the contract extension. Until this week.

"I probably don't want to publicly talk about that part,” Brohm stated on a local radio show  regarding negotiations for his contract extension, “but hopefully looking forward to getting something done."

And now, the majority of Louisville fans are calling out Josh Heird and are begging Louisville and Brohm to get the extension done. Brohm has built an impressive resume with the Cardinals, but there is one glaring reason that should convince Louisville to get this done ASAP, and that is this huge recruiting surge he is on.

Jeff Brohm's recruiting surge proves Louisville must extend him now

Brohm’s ability to recruit is a glaring reason why he deserves this extension. He was able to land the program’s sixth-highest commitment in Allen Evans, and now this class is on pace to make history. Louisville’s best recruiting class came in 2006 when it ranked No. 24 in the nation, but right now Brohm is dominating the early stage of the 2027 cycle.

Louisville’s class ranks No. 7 in the nation, as the Cards have landed nine commitments in total, including five 4-stars. The Cards class is turning heads for many reasons, but the clear reason is Brohm’s ability to dominate the state of Kentucky. He has landed three of the top five 2027 recruits in the state of Kentucky, according to Rivals.

But the recruiting surge isn’t just in the 2027 class. Brohm went out and earned the fifth-best Transfer Portal class this offseason, landing 31 transfer commitments and convincing key players to return. Brohm not only recruited and brought in 4-stars Tre Richardson, Lawayne McCoy, Marquise Davis, Brody Foley, and former 4-star Ohio State QB Lincoln Kienholz, but also recruited from within and avoided major players entering the portal like Isaac Brown, Antonio Watts, AJ Green, and many more.

Louisville is ranked as high as No. 14 in ESPN’s way-too-early rankings, and the glaring explanation for that is because of the roster Brohm was able to build this offseason. Hopefully, this can get done sooner rather than later, and both parties can reach an agreement, because the Cardinals' recruiting is surging right now, and elite players want to come play for Brohm.
