Louisville Football: Vegas Sets Louisville Win Total at 8

This morning the United States Supreme Court ruled that laws against sports betting were unconstitutional, which means you can now legally bet  on Louisville football’s win total for 2018-19 season.

Today in what was HUGEEE news in the world of sports, the Supreme Court ruled that all laws against sports betting in the United States were unconstitutional, which opened the doors to states allowing sports gambling.

While there’s no way to tell how this will impact the state of Kentucky, Cards fans will want to pay close attention to the newest betting odds for the Louisville football 2018-19 win season, as a new reality is on the horizon.

In a savvy move, Vegas sports booker BETDSI released their ACC odds for the upcoming football season today, putting the number for the Cardinals a bit higher than I would have expected, but one that is absolutely achievable.

While the Cards will be replacing former Heisman Trophy winner and two time ACC player of the year Lamar Jackson, along with Defensive Coordinator Peter Sirmon (this may be good for the total wins) and nine starters on the defense, BETDSI set the win total at 8.

The Louisville football 8 win total projection is the fifth highest over-under by BetDSI in the ACC, coming in behind Clemson (10.5), Miami (9.5), FSU (8,5) and Virginia Tech 8.5. North Carolina State comes in at sixth, with 7 wins, even with starting Quarterback Ryan Finley returning for his senior season.

If Louisville is going to get to eight wins against one of their toughest schedules in recent memory, it’s going to take a big season from new quarterback Puma Pass. While we only saw a few glimpses of the redshirt sophomore last season, everything we’ve heard from Bobby Petrino and the staff this offseason (and last year) as well as what we saw in April’s spring game, points to a breakout year in 2018.

"“The post route he threw for a touchdown to Dez (Fitzpatrick) was probably as good a post route as he’s thrown this spring. He threw it on a line and hit him in stride. We can win games with throws like that.”"

With Louisville returning it’s top three receivers in Jaylen Smith, Dez Fitzpatrick, and Seth Dawkins, as well as nearly their entire offensive line (aside from Geron Christian), the Cards have all the tools necessary on offense to return to the high production they got from Lamar Jackson.

Petrino was very complimentary of his team and Pass after it’s annual spring game, mentioning several times that he liked the way the team got better, but still had a lot of work to do in order to get ready for the season opener against Alabama.

During his four years at Louisville Petrino has yet to have a season where he wins less than 8 games. So setting the win total at that magic number for the Cards makes sense. However, there are still many questions that will need to be answered.

Can Brian VanGorder turn the Louisville defense around? Will Puma Pass be the next great UofL QB? Who will be the primary running back? Can the defense replace 9 starters?

There will be tons of things to watch for leading up and throughout the season with Louisville and the other ACC contenders, but there is no doubt this team is capable of winning 8 or 9 games and challenging Clemson & Florida State in the Atlantic division of the ACC.
