Louisville Football: Jawon Pass is Ready for Alabama
By Madison Wood
After what seems like an eternity of eager anticipation, as well as some nerves, the day is finally here. The Cards versus the Tide. We can be sure that everyone is hyped up for what many are calling the biggest season opener in Louisville football history, but no Cardinal is more ready than Jawon Pass.
It’s been over three years since Puma committed to Louisville – and the shade he threw at the Tide in the process can not go unappreciated. The hat fake out is a classic, y’all! He even faked out his own mama – what a Legend.
Everyone knows this kid has talent (I mean look at the other hats on the table) but this article is less about numbers and stats and more about cold hard facts. Jawon Pass chose Louisville for a reason, and tonight he’ll get to show the defending champs – and the rest of the nation – just why that is.
By now it’s no secret that Alabama really wanted Puma. So did Auburn, and Georgia. The bottom line is, the guy is a stud. And there are lots of people doubting him right now. Why though? Whether they call themselves Crimson Tide fans, SEC fans, etc. we’ll call them like we see them: haters.

Let’s talk about the fact that Jawon has sat behind Lamar Jackson for three years. No no, I glossed over that one too quickly. Pass sat behind HEISMAN WINNING QUARTERBACK Lamar Jackson for three years. Not only has he learned from arguably the best college QB to play the game (period), he’s also been under Bobby Petrino’s instruction and system for that long.
Sure, he’s been in limited game action. But most of what it takes to play the quarterback position is mental, and Puma possesses the elite physical attributes necessary to win at a very high level. Here’s some of those numbers I promised not to bore you with earlier: 6’4″ 230 pounds. You think that dude isn’t gonna be able to stand in there and make plays?
I feel like this point has been driven into the ground, but at the same time it is worth repeating: Puma is the prototypical Petrino QB. Not only that, he knows that he’s not the only one that’s been patiently waiting for his moment. Bobby has been chomping at the bit to get Pass in there just as much as the kid himself.

That’s My Quarterback
Fact: Jawon Pass has no fear.
On Thursday, Jake Lourim of the Courier Journal wrote an article on Pass that went into more detail on his college decision. Perhaps the most interesting part of the whole thing is this particular story about a meeting with Nick Saban shortly before Jawon committed.
"“He said, ‘I don’t like to play games and string people along. I love it here. I love you. You’re awesome, but …’” Thomas said. “And then he started giving him examples of quarterbacks that haven’t been as well-prepared from Alabama.”"
This guy sat in front of Nick Saban of mighty Alabama… and hit him with “I’m good luv, enjoy.”
I’m sorry, but after reading that, there’s no way any of us should doubt Puma WHATSOEVER.
This game was announced less than a month after Jawon Pass committed to the Cards. So rest assured that as long as it feels like we’ve been waiting, Puma feels like he has waited ten times as long. And he knows just like we do, that Alabama isn’t taking him or his team seriously.
So with all this talk about Hurts or Tua and “it doesn’t matter because the Cards have no chance anyways”… They can send their Elephant onto the field tonight, for all I care. Because we’ve got their one that got away. Puma Pass is suiting up in Cardinal Red to face the team he’s been dreaming of beating ever since he turned them down. And he is ready.
