Louisville Football: Live stream, game time, TV info and preview for Indiana State

Louisville football will get back on the field tomorrow when they square off with the Indiana State Sycamores at Cardinal Stadium.

The annual FCS romping is set to take place tomorrow night when the Louisville Cardinals go head-to-head with the fighting Sycamores of Indiana State.

There’s got to be a better way to schedule and play FCS teams, but that is neither here nor there as of now. Tomorrow the Cards will look to bounce back against a team that went 0-11 last season at the FCS level, and will do so in the newly renovated and renamed Cardinal Stadium.

With it currently looking like a 100% chance of rain (you never know if these weathermen are right, I mean c’mon give me a job where I can always be wrong all the time) which means that you better have your ponchos and you still better be in your damn seats.

Many won’t make it out to Cardinal Stadium for the 7:00 kickoff so knowing where and how to watch and listen to the game is key.

Here’s what you need to know.

Game preview

This game should be pretty sloppy with a tropical storm rolling into Louisville, but that shouldn’t stop Cardinal Stadium from being electric. Not only will the Cards be unveiling the newly renovated stadium to the Cardinal fan base, which features in ground suites, 6,000+ new seats, and two huge video boards, but Athletic Director Vince Tyra has promised an incredible new intro for the team, reduced pricing for concessions, tailgating lots opening earlier, and plenty of in game upgrades. But that’s not it.

There will be several (and I mean several) big time former Cardinals will be in the building, including the one and only, Donovan Mitchell.

I said it earlier this morning on Twitter, but I’ll say it again.

Donovan Mitchell is making his first appearance at a Cardinal sporting event since being drafted 13th overall by the Utah Jazz, winning the slam dunk contest, and becoming one of the biggest names in the NBA season. What he’s done for Louisville this year has been second to none, and for that, the man deserves the loudest ovation in the history of Cardinal Stadium. Our program has been dragged through the mud time and time again over the past 24 months. He has been a shinning light that has helped to get everything on track once again. I digress.

On to football.

The Cards obviously have a very winnable game against one of the worst college football teams at the FCS level. After the debacle that was week one against Alabama it will be nice to see Louisville get their turn at manhandling an opponent.

During these games there’s not a whole lot you can typically learn, as teams like Louisville obviously have far superior talent to teams like Indiana State. However, this week may be a bit different. The Cards obviously made a lot of mental mistakes in the first game, and really struggled to execute. A lot of that is clearly because of how good Alabama is, but early in the game it was Louisville who continually shot themselves in the foot.

This week it will be crucial for the Cards to come out play a smooth game, with no turnovers, no mental mistakes, limited penalties, all while showing that they have made improvements on areas that were deemed “coachable,” after week one.

Yesterday we gave you the 5 players that should be watched with a closer eye this weekend. The battle for the defensive end position that was left available after the unfortunate injury to Jonathan Greenard will be something to monitor throughout the entire game as Amonte Caban, Jarrett Jackson, Kam Jones, Boosie Whitlow, and a handful of other players will likely get their chance to shine there. This battle will be crucial to the development of the Louisville defense and even against Indiana State, shouldn’t be downplayed.

More from Louisville Football

The running back position will also be an area of the game to watch, and actually could be the most important key to the game for Louisville. With the field likely being covered in water, throwing the ball will become a bit more difficult, meaning Petrino is likely to feed his running backs over and over and over again.

Jeremy Smith will be back for the Cards after missing all of last year before transferring out and then rejoining the program. I expect Petrino to get him involved early in attempt to see if Smith has the ability to lead the running backs this season. Watch for Dae Williams, Colin Wilson, and Trey Smith to also get a handful of carries as these are the names that most Cardinal fans thought would be at the top of the pecking order to be “the guy,” in 2018.

Also keep an eye on two freshman backs, Hassan Hall and Javian Hawkins against Indiana State. These guys have a level of speed that we haven’t seen at the running back position in quite some time, and really could apply some pressure to the Louisville vets.

With the game being a blow out (it better be) it also means we are likely to get a chance to see backup quarterbacks Malik Cunningham and/or Jordan Travis for the first time once Puma Pass is pulled from the game. Cunningham is a lot like Lamar Jackson, while Jordan Travis is more in the mold of Stefan Lefors. Both guys were high level recruits who pushed Puma all summer long. I personally think Louisville is in good hands if God forbid Puma Pass was to go down with an injury that would keep him from the field. However, we’ll find out a little bit more this weekend.

Other players will probably see extended playing time this weekend once the game gets out of hand. I’ll be watching for players like Robert Hicks, Yassir Abdullah, Chandler Jones, Telly Plummer, Marlon Character, Justin Marshall, Keion Wakefield, Tyler Harrell, Trenell Troutman, Dejmi Dumvervil Jean, amongst others to take the field as they look to show they can make an impact in their first seasons on the field.

Saturday will be sloppy but should still be fun. I hope to see you all there to root for our Cards.
