Louisville Football: Big Red Louie’s Game Predictions vs. Indiana State

facebooktwitterreddit

Louisville football will take the field tonight against Indiana State. The Big Red Louie team provides their key player for the game and a score prediction.

It’s the Louisville football home opener tonight as the Cards go head to head with Indiana State. It’s going to be a sloppy game as the forecast is currently calling for rain, rain, and more rain. Hopefully that won’t matter and Cardinal fans will come out to support the Cardinals in their first game at home.

With the new stadium expansion being unveiled officially for the first time, a new intro video and several Cardinal celebrities in town (along with a few big recruits) tonight should be rowdy.

The team at Big Red Louie came together to provide their predictions for the game and a player who they are watching for tonight. Check it out.

Spoiler alert: Everyone picked Louisville

My player to watch for this game is going to be Dez Fitzpatrick. The reason I say Dez instead of Dae Williams or another RB is because of the type of player Dez is. He has to be frustrated by his game against Alabama, and I believe he comes out with a new level of intensity. We know he’s an elite talent, but I think we’ll see him really driving to the ball, doing everything he can to get open and make plays. Expect him to be involved early and often.

Since we’re (hopefully) going to commit to the run game, I’ll say ISU gets on the board in garbage time and the Cards win handily.

Prediction: Louisville 66, Indiana State 3

After he got that challenging first start out of the way, I will be watching Puma Pass closely to see how he commands the offense. The goal for him should be no turnovers, and no 3 and outs against a team like Indiana State. Look for Puma to throw multiple touchdown passes.

It will be interesting to see the backup QB’s that have been getting so much hype. Apparently both Jordan Travis and Malik Cunningham have been really impressive. I am excited to see who Bobby rolls out in the second half.

We need guys like Jarrett Jackson and Amante Caban to step up after the big loss of team captain Jonathan Greenard. Hopefully they can manage to fill the void as much as possible.

I hope Rodjay Burns can bounce back after a tough game against ‘Bama. I know he’s better than that and deserves a shot.

Not sure if it was the injury or what, but I’m sure Jaylen Smith isn’t happy with his performance against Alabama last week in Orlando. Hopefully he can bounce back as well and have a big game tonight.

Tonight I’ll be watching for Donovan Mitchell. The “true” rookie of the year, who had possibly the best season for any first year NBA pro in recent memory will be making his return to Louisville for the first time. It’s going to get rowdy. Mitchell is the new face of Louisville athletics and I expect the fans to let him hear that.

Oh we’re talking football?

On the football side of things, my key player is Colin Wilson. Against Kent State and Murray State last season we saw a very small glimpse of a special running back, a type of player Louisville has been missing for years. Unfortunately for Wilson and the Cards he went down with a knee injury which we would find out later was a torn ACL. The running back job won’t be won tonight, but if Wilson has a big night he could be line to start next week against Western, which could lead to winning the job full time and becoming “the guy.” I say he finishes with 12 carries for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Prediction: Louisville 56, Indiana State 6

My player to watch vs. Indiana St. is defensive end Gary McCrae. With the absence of defensive captain, Jon Greenard, McCrae will get his chance to fill that role.

The Last Chance U JUCO transfer out of EMCC , now a senior in his 3rd year with the Louisville program, has the length and quickness off the edge to affect a game and be a disruptive presence in the backfield on a consistent basis. Coach Bobby Petrino specifically mentioned him during his coach’s show this past Thursday evening talking about how he’s stood out in practice this week and needs to step up at this time.

Prediction: Louisville 66, Indiana State 10

I have a couple of players that I’m looking forward to on Saturday but the one I’m really intrigued by is CB Rodjay Burns.

Burns just had a bad day against Alabama and I know he’s better than that. I just wanna see the rebound game he has. I want to see him lock down his opposition on Saturday and build on this game going forward.

Prediction: Louisville 70, Indiana State 6

Presley Meyer

To me, the player to watch is going to be Jeremy Smith. Louisville has some concerns on defense after losing Jon Greenard, but the line actually held its own against the Alabama front four while playing every drive but one without Greenard.

Running back Jeremy Smith will return to action first his first game eligible since requesting his release, but ultimately returning at the last second for his final season as a Cardinal.

The Cards struggled to establish the run against Alabama. Although Dae Williams and Colin Wilson figure to be much more productive as the season goes on, Smith could be an X-factor for the running back unit. When Smith was on in 2016, he was really on. Memorable games against Clemson and NC State that season show how much potential he has- especially as a redzone threat, or lined up at fullback.

If Smith can hold onto the ball, he will be a huge addition for the Cards.

Louisville needs to treat every rep against Indiana State like they are still playing Alabama. If they bring the intensity, they can name their score.

After the 51-14 beat down by the hands of the Crimson Tide last week, I look for the team to come out today with a fire lit under them.

I expect the offense to take some deep shots downfield and would not be surprised if Jawon Pass sits halfway through the third quarter. I expect to see a lot of young guys get reps on defense today. It will be interesting to see who fills in for Jon Greenard.

I expect the defensive line to have their way with Indiana State’s offensive line.  I would honestly love to see Louisville run up the score in this game. I am tired of Louisville respecting their opponents and, frankly, after last week it is time to get back to Bobby ball again because we have not seen it that much in his second tenure here.

Louisville 63, Indiana State 7

Let’s get this show on the road. Cards faithful have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the stadium expansion, and just for Cardinal football in general.

Next. Puma Pass ready for a big game against ISU. dark

Fire up those tailgates, break out those ponchos, throw your lucky underwear back into rotation. Louisville football home games are back.
