Stock down – Kemari Averett

Averett has unlimited potential, but he is going to have to do a lot more to continue to see action for the Cards.

Averett recorded two impressive touchdowns for the Cards in game one against Alabama. Since then, he has touched the ball one time, and that was on a catchable ball against Western that he dropped right into the hands of the defender.

Don’t sell all of your Averett stock just yet but he, along with fellow tight ends Micky Crum and Jordan Davis, have been seriously under-utilized for the majority of the season so far.

When Averett gets a ball thrown his direction, he has to haul it in. The Cards can open up the playbook a lot more when their 6 foot 7, 280 pound tight end is clicking on all cylinders.

Stock down – Jeremy Smith

It could be argued that Jeremy Smith still has a case to be a featured back, or split most of the reps with Dae Williams.

However, when Smith was in the game against Western Kentucky, Petrino was not impressed. Two rushes for -2 yards is typically not going to get the job done. Especially against a physically unimposing team.

Smith still has time to turn things around, and is probably still not in game shape after being away from the team for several months. With that said, Petrino has showed thus far that he isn’t going to give you the rock if you aren’t making the most of every play.

Smith’s stock is down this week, but don’t be surprised if he finds his way back onto the field against Virginia or Florida State.
