Louisville Football: Could bigger jobs keep Jeff Brohm from coming home?

Jeff Brohm as the new coach of Louisville football makes all kinds of sense, but what if he decides to go elsewhere?

It’s hard to deny that Jeff Brohm becoming that next Louisville football Head Coach seems perfect on all sides. But what if he considers other top programs, or even the NFL?

Let’s examine some other potential landing spots who could be giving Brohm a call this holiday week.

Let’s start with full on craziness. Imagine Ohio State beating Michigan on Saturday, winning the B10 Championship, and making it to the College Football Playoff…and then Urban Meyer retires.

We’ve all seen how much Meyer labors each week on the sidelines and seems to handle adversity like a kindergartner on the school playground. His health is certainly a fact and it may be time for Meyer to hang up the beloved headset he has a hate/love relationship with each weekend.

If Meyer indeed vacates his spot in Columbus, why not make a call to Purdue Head Coach Jeff Brohm? Brohm sliced and diced Ohio State earlier this year and if he can allure recruits to West Lafayette, then surely, SURELY he can entice them to suit up in scarlet and gray. Brohm is on the rise and Ohio State likely will go after a younger coach to lead their program into the future.

While we’re talking about elite college programs, another big-time program may be in need of a coach after the season-USC. Clay Helton has done a less than stellar job in his three season as Head Coach and could be out of his job next week (assuming his Trojans don’t stun Notre Dame on Saturday). Regardless, a new coach will be needed in LA soon, and why not Jeff Brohm? Brohm brings the attractive high-powered offense that would be flashy in LA (or Columbus).

What about the NFL?

Brohm had a successful career as a player, including seven years in the NFL. He’s won at every level he’s coached and led high-flying offenses at every stop. Why not? If a rumor about the Browns being interested in Condoleezza Rice can ignite social media, how would interest in Jeff Brohm go over?

Brohm is young, gets the most out of his players, and certainly knows how to win. Cleveland has the talent and ability and with Brohm’s coaching could take the next step in the crowded AFC North.

Hop across to the NFC and imagine what Brohm could do with Aaron Rodgers. The Green Bay Packers organization has once again failed to surround Rodgers with the tools, support, and most importantly the coaching/play-calling to win consistently, and his talent cannot continue to be wasted.

If and when the Packers decide to go away from Head Coach Mike McCarthy, Brohm would make sense. If nothing else, Jeff Brohm makes just as much sense as any other potential hire in Cleveland and likewise in Green Bay.

Would Brohm dare take his talents back to the pros?

Simply put, Louisville must lock down Jeff Brohm and it must be soon. The longer it takes for Vince Tyra to get a Louisville ball cap back on Brohm’s head, the more Jeff (and his agent) will consider throwing their name in different rings. Bring Back Brohm, and bring him back before someone else does.
