Louisville football is looking to close out the recruiting cycle with a bang. Currently they are leading the way in the crystal ball predictions for their highest rated recruit remaining. Can they close the deal?

Scott Satterfield, Cort Dennison, and the entire Louisville football staff have been out on the road busting their butts looking to finish off the 2019 recruiting class with a big bang. With only two and a half weeks remaining until National Signing Day and 11ish spots to fill, there’s no doubt there is plenty of work left to be done.

While the majority of the recruits the Cardinal staff are pursuing are quality 3 star recruits who will be able to play a roll in turning around the Louisville football program, there are none more highly touted at this point than four star defensive end, Ja’Darien Boykin.

Boykin, a 6’2, 235 pound defensive end out of Georgia, currently holds offers from the likes of Miami, Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Arizona State, but it’s Louisville who seems to be trending in the right direction at the right time. Once overlooked, Boykin has begun loading up on offers in the last few weeks and now will have a tough decision to make.

Defensive end is without a doubt one of the biggest positions of needs for Bryan Brown as he tries to retool a defense that has been neglected in recruiting, especially up front, over the last several recruiting cycles by the previous regime. Landing a player like Boykin would be crucial not only for the future but also the present for Louisville.

It seemed in recent weeks that Miami was the leader in the clubhouse to land Boykin after offering him earlier in January, but with an official visit on the horizon this weekend, things are beginning to trend Louisville’s way.

If you visit the recruiting profile for Boykin on 247 Sports, you’ll quickly see that the Cards currently are the favorite for the 2019 DE, currently holding a 100% crystal ball selection. That crystal ball selection comes from none other than 247 Sports Director of Football Recruiting, Steve Wilifrong, who as Keith Wynne pointed out on Twitter, is hardly ever wrong in his picks.

Scott Satterfield and company will host Ja’Darien Boykin this weekend, as mentioned earlier, and it’s very likely that a commitment could follow. However, the longer things go without a decision the likelihood increases that the Cards could slip behind other programs.

Boykin has already taken an official visit to Miami to visit with new head coach Manny Diaz, who took over after the retirement of Mark Richt. But as you can see, Boykin left without committing which is a huge sign for Louisville.

Louisville has hosted numerous recruits over the last few weekends, and that will continue to be the case up until signing day. But with Boykin visiting this weekend, there may not be a more important time for the Cardinals.
