Dez Melton – ATH/TE

3-star

6’4, 205

Glendale, AZ

It doesn’t take long to watch the highlights of Dez Melton and be 100% intrigued. Playing high school ball in Glendale, Dez Melton did a lot of everything. He played wide receiver, running back, and even returned kicks – but is being listed as a tight end at the next level.

At 6’4 Melton has great size for the tight end position, but at only 205 pounds still has a lot of room to grow. With guys like Ean Pfeifer (Vanderbilt graduate transfer) and Jordan Davis on the roster for 2019, adding Melton would give the Cards a completely different type of player at the position – one who could be a legitimate option over the middle of the field and even stretch the defense.

Melton visited campus two weeks ago and also has made visits to Iowa State, and San Diego State.

Louisville is one of his best offers and presents the opportunity for immediate playing time. While he’s probably not physically ready for the collegiate level just yet, Melton will be able to mix things up and present some interesting match ups for Louisville’s offense shall he commit on Wednesday.

Other schools being considered: Iowa State, San Diego State

Prediction: Louisville

Highlights here.

UPDATE: Dez Melton didn’t wait until Signing Day to pull the trigger. Instead, he committed to the Cards today via Twitter. You can read more about his commitment here.
