Louisville football signed 16 players in the class of 2019 in Scott Satterfield’s first recruiting cycle. We discuss the four players most likely to make an immediate impact, and one unexpected player who could compete right away.

It’s been quite the whirlwind for Scott Satterfield since taking the job as the new Head Coach of the Louisville football program. After coming to the Ville in December, Satterfield had just a matter of weeks to put together a new staff, meet and get to know his players, dissect the Cardinal roster, and put together a recruiting plan before the Early Signing Period – in which the majority of recruits signed nationally.

Louisville signed just four players that day, two of whom were holdovers from the previous staff’s recruiting – Aidan Robbins (ATH/RB) and Zach Williamson (OT), while they were able to flip two others from previous commitments – Evan Conley (QB – Appalachian State) and Dorian Jones (ILB – Indiana).

After the early signing period, Satterfield still faced more challenges to try and put together a recruiting class that would help to stop the bleeding of a poorly managed roster from the previous coaching staff. Building relationships with players and coaches typically takes years before a commitment is made, and this staff had less than two months to pack all that in.

Scott Satterfield spoke at the team’s annual Signing Day party saying:

"“We recognized all of the challenges that were in front of us. Any time you’re trying to build a staff, you’re trying to get the right ones to come to our program, you’re trying to figure out what our needs are based on our current roster. Having done that, you haven’t even been around the guys. So that makes it even a little more difficult. I’m not surprised, I figured that was the way it was going to be. We knew it was going to be a challenge.”"

The Cards ended up with a 16 player class that was highlighted by four star ESPN 300 (No. 158) defensive end, Ja’Darien Boykin, and graduate transfer offensive lineman, TJ McCoy. Louisville also ended up with commitments from three star OLB Zach Edwards, CB/S Jamel Starks, 3 star athlete Dez Melton (Tuesday night) and 3 star running back Jalen Mitchell.

The staff did miss on a few players, including running back Jamious Griffin, who would have without question been the best player in the class, but all-in-all the Cards finished strong and now get prepared to head into spring ball which starts this coming Monday.

With that mind we wanted to give a deeper dive into the recruiting class and examine who, if anyone, will be able to make an immediate impact on in 2019. This Louisville team has a “bad taste in their mouth,” according to Cort Dennison, who spoke on 93.9 The Ville with Mark Ennis, after a 2-10 finish to a once promising 2018 season.

We’ve got five players from the class of 2019 who could end up seeing the field early in their Cardinal careers and providing an immediate impact right away.
