Ja’Darien Boykin – DE

No matter what the Courier Journal believes, Scott Satterfield found a “home run/highlight” recruit in his first class at Louisville. As pointed out by Keith Wynne on Twitter, it took Bobby Petrino two years to land his first composite four star recruit at Louisville after returning for his second stint. Satterfield and company were able to land Boykin after recruiting him for less than two months. Let that sink in.

Boykin is a kid who will absolutely see the field right away from Louisville, barring any complications with injury, grades, or incoming transfers that we don’t know about yet, as the Cardinals defensive line is lacking depth, overall talent, and star power at this point.

Boykin is a powerful defensive end who has the ability to get after the quarterback plain and simple, something Louisville has really struggled with (especially last season) over the last two years. He is the prototypical lineman/rusher that Bryan Brown and Scott Satterfield prefer to use in their system due to his size (6’1, 238) and speed.

Boykin will compete at the defensive end/edge outside linebacker spot with the likes of Tabarius Peterson, Derek Dorsey, and Boosie Whitlow next season.
