Damion Lee – G, Golden State Warriors

Prediction: Earns fully guaranteed deal with Warriors mid-season

Damion Lee looked to be headed towards a roster spot with the Golden State Warriors, the team that signed him to his first two-way contract last season before the team ultimately decided to add a veteran for their championship run.

That left Lee in limbo in free agency this year. Lee was good for the Warriors when he got the chance to play last season, averaging12 minutes and putting up totals of 5 points and 2 rebounds a night, while scoring in double digits on five occasions including 20 points against the New Orleans Pelicans on April 9th.

The Warriors reportedly wanted Lee back on a two-way deal for 2019-2020, while the second year guard wanted a fully-guaranteed deal. With a new look Warriors roster opening the door to more playing time, Lee signed a second two-way deal with the NBA runner-ups and will suit up for the NBA club and G-League team next year for the second season in a row.

With the Warriors losing star forward Kevin Durant to free agency, along with quality veterans Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala, as well suffering from the injury to Klay Thompson the roster and potential roles will be a big question mark next season.

Golden State’s roster will be capped at 14 for the time being due to salary cap restrictions, meaning they can’t see Lee to a guaranteed deal without another move first – but with a few younger players having non-guaranteed deals and the potential for trades, Lee could wind up on the roster.

I think that’s exactly what will happen.

After averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds as a rookie with the Hawks, and playing well for the Warriors last season, he’s earned the opportunity to be a full-time player in the NBA again.
