Keep playing the youngsters

The state of Louisville football appeared to be at its worst of the decade last year, after Kentucky scored 56 in Cardinal stadium to hand the Cards their 10th loss, it was hard to look forward to anything related to Louisville football.

In a conference this competitive and this deep from top to bottom, it is nearly impossible to fix all of these things over the course of one offseason. When you look at our schedule for the rest of this season, it’s really hard to find six wins. They play in-state foes Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky, at Florida State and then only teams that appeared in a bowl last year. Last night we definitely saw flashes of a possible bowl team, one that looked like they completely bought into their new coach’s plan. But these next few months are going to be tough… however, I think the next few seasons get much easier.

Perhaps the most impressive part about Louisville’s offensive attack on Monday night was their production from freshmen and sophomores. Javian Hawkins, Hassan Hall, and Marshon Ford were responsible for 233 of the 383 total yards gained by the new-look offense.

For a coach to come in and win right away with players that he and his staff didn’t recruit, it’s not an easy thing to do. So we as fans shouldn’t get too carried away by the week to week results, we should appreciate how good these young guys are going to be for the next few seasons.

Saturday look for Satterfield to again establish the run game early in an attempt to keep the offense moving down the field. While Javian Hawkins and Hassan Hall will continue to receive the lions share of carries, expect to see other backs get reps as the game goes on including Maurice Burkley and Aidan Robbins.
