Six weeks into the season and recruiting for Louisville football is picking back up again.

All has been quiet on the recruiting front for the Louisville football program since receiving commitments from Lovie Jenkins, who flipped to the Cards after being committed to Tennesse, and wide receiver Nick Malito after the first two weeks of the 2019 season. But as the season begins to heat up, Louisville and Scott Satterfield are doing their best to keep their program at the top of the minds of their targets.

Recruiting looked like it may be an issue for the new Louisville staff when they arrived back in December and early January, but with just a few months left before the early signing period, the Cards seem to be in a pretty good spot.

Despite losing a commitment from three-star defensive back Ronald Delancy III yesterday afternoon, the Cards still hold verbal commitments from 22 players and have the 30th best-recruiting class at this point according to 247 Sports (6th best in the ACC).

Even with Satterfield still being in the very early stages of the “rebuild”  his team’s solid play on the field and new excitement around the program has allowed for Louisville to get in with new players and bring back some into the field.

With somewhere between four to eight spots to fill in the class, Louisville will continue to host top talent this weekend (as well as the weekends head) against Boston College including one player who could be a potential flip and another who was once committed to the Cards.

Cornerback DeAngelo Taylor out of Tampa, FL who is currently committed to play at Arizona State and former Louisville commit Latarise Kinsler out of Pahokee, FL will both be in town as the Cards look to pick up their third win of the season and first in the ACC under Satterfield.

Don’t underestimate how big of a deal getting these two players in particular on campus is – not to mention four-star offensive lineman Marcus Dumervil, who will make an official visit to Louisville against Clemson.

Kinsler committed to Bobby Petrino and the Cards early last year before deciding to back off of that pledge after the coach was let go late in the season. Early on it looked like Louisville was likely out of the running for the talented three-star defensive lineman who holds offers from a myriad of power five programs including LSU, Tennessee, and Oregon, but has recently been back in communication with the staff who seem to be in a good spot.

De’Angelo Taylor may be a new name for those of you who don’t follow football recruiting religiously, but he’s one you need to know. Much like Kinsler, Taylor is a highly regarded prospect in the class of 2020 and has plenty of power five suitors. As mentioned, he’s committed to Herm Edwards and the revamped Arizona State program but seems to be exploring his options at this point in time.

Taylor is a player whose been on the radar of the Louisville staff for a while now, dating back to their time at Appalachian State. In fact, his first scholarship offer came from App State on December 3rd, just one day before the formal announcement of Satterfield being named the Louisville head coach.

We know the position of cornerback is a huge need for Louisville, especially with the loss of Delancy. With Cornelius Sturghill exhausting his eligibility this offseason and no other players at the position committed currently, early playing time will be available for guys like Taylor – which has to make Louisville an attractive option.

With two players already flipping their commitments to Louisville from other programs, Taylor could soon be the third if things go well on his visit this weekend.

The Cards are expected to have multiple visitors this weekend for unofficial, including multiple committed players, so recruiting will be just as important as the field on the play.

dark. Next. 5 players to watch against Boston College

If Satterfield and staff are able to close on Kinsler and Taylor, it will be an even bigger boost to the 2020 class.
