Javian Hawkins looked like one of the best running backs in the ACC

Javian Hawkins has probably been the most impressive Louisville Cardinal at any position this season and is an early candidate for ACC Freshman of the Year. This Saturday, he was even better than usual.

Hawkins is a guy that looks faster and stronger every week. This Saturday, he faced a team with the 99th ranked defense in the NCAA who showed that they had struggled to stop the run all season. He definitely took advantage.

Hawkins ran for a career-high 172 yards on 25 touches and scored a touchdown, ripping off multiple impressive runs, including this one. His performance even got him ACC running back of the week honors.

The “Playstation” nickname appropriately describes Hawkins on the football field. His elusiveness seems to know no bounds. His vision in terms of recognizing where and when to run seems to improve every week. It’s crazy to think about how good this guy is and how good he could be in a year, he’s only a redshirt freshman after all.

The passing performance was rather shocking yesterday. But these kinds of efforts from Hawkins are becoming the norm quickly. We haven’t seen this type of performance from a tailback at Louisville in a long time.
