Marshon Ford

Marshon Ford began his career at Louisville as a walk on. The freshman from Ballard quickly became a scholarship player once this coaching staff realized what they had in this young man. It’s not hard to see why.

Ford does so many things well during games that casual fans don’t notice. His edge blocking is one of many reasons why Javian Hawkins has had the level of success he’s been able to have this season. This past weekend, people had no choice but to notice. Marshon Ford scored twice on Saturday, as he did earlier this year against Eastern Kentucky.

Ford’s first touchdown came on the second play of Louisville’s second drive in the second half. After trailing at half 10-7, Atwell’s touchdown put the Cardinals back in front. One of Russ Yeast’s two forced fumbles gave Louisville the ball back with a chance to take a two-score lead in a game where points were at a premium.

A perfect play call resulted in Ford being one on one with an NC State linebacker that just couldn’t match his speed. Cunningham threw a perfect ball and the Cardinals never looked back, maintaining a two-score lead for the remainder of the contest.

His next touchdown pass didn’t come from Cunningham, not Conley either, but kicker Ryan Chalifoux. It was the first touchdown pass from a non-quarterback at UofL since Johnny Patrick in the 2007 Orange Bowl.

The TE position was another thing about this Louisville team that we didn’t know much about going into 2019. Satterfield and his staff found the right guy in Ford and his running mate, Ean Pfeifer has been fantastic as well. Pfeiffer and Ford combined for three touchdowns on Saturday.
