The transfer portal is filling up and with Louisville basketball needing to fill their roster it may be the route the coaching staff goes. We profile the five best transfer fits for the Cards.

The transfer portal has been blowing up over the last 72 hours as the new reality of college sports begins to settle in with players who were supposed to be preparing and playing for the Big Dance, including those for Louisville basketball (read up on the transfer of junior guard Darius Perry).

Players from both the mid-major and high-major programs (404 to be exact as of 3/21 at 9:30 AM) have announced their intent to look for new homes, and it’s caused a lot of speculation amongst fans. For Louisville fans specifically, we know it’s likely that Chris Mack is going to utilize the portal considering the Cards only have three recruits signed for the 2020 class while possessing three available spots and maybe even four, depending on the decision of Jay Scrubb.

It’s possible Mack could turn to a high-school senior or prep-player late in the process, depending on how much coaching movement, but it seems likely that we are going to see at least three new players being added to the 2020-21 roster via the transfer portal.

We’ve already detailed what Louisville will be losing this offseason and who will be returning, what will be intriguing about the 2020-21 season, and the biggest needs facing Chris Mack.

A quick breakdown as you get ready to dive into a few names that Louisville basketball could have an interest in and will be good fits.

Team needs:

  • Back-up point guard
  • Potential starting guard or wing
  • Another elite scorer (Should Scrubb declare for the NBA Draft)
  • Starting caliber power forward (Scoring/rebounding – double-doubles)
  • Back-up center to split minutes with Aidan Igiehon

Projected rotation:

G – David Johnson (16.0 mpg)

G – Jay Scrubb** / Josh Nickelberry (3.7 mpg) / D’Andre Davis

G/F – Sam Williamson (15.3 mpg)

F – Jae’Lyn Withers (RS freshman) / Quinn Slazinski (3.0) / JJ Traynor = 3.0

C – Malik Williams (18.7) / Aidan Igiehon (4.7)

Now for what you came for. We take a look at five available transfers (both sit-out and graduate-transfers) who are either being pursued by the staff or should be.

Let’s begin.
