These Virginia Tech Hokies will go a long way to determining the outcome against Louisville football.

A lot has happened since the Louisville football program went head-to-head with Virginia Tech on the gridiron. At the time, the Cards were seen nationally as a rising program who was extremely close to knocking on the front door of the powers that be and becoming a nationally recognized University.

Virginia Tech was coming off one of the most incredible runs in college football behind Michael Vick and head coach Frank Beamer and were still seen as one of the most important programs in the country.

Here we are 13 years later and neither school has really moved the needle any closer to becoming a National Championship caliber program. They’ve each had their moments over the last few seasons, especially in 2016, but both still are looking to take the next step into competing in their respective ACC conferences.

Saturday’s Halloween showdown will obviously be the first since the Cards joined the ACC, and will come with a ton of intrigue. Neither head coach would probably tell you their team has lived up to the expectations they had for themselves entering the year, and both would have good reasons for why that is.

Virginia Tech has faced a myriad of issues related to COVID this season, having to miss games because of the high numbers of positive tests, and also dealt with a number of injuries and even opt-out and transfer concerns. Louisville has been in just about every game at some point this season and yet finds themselves at 2-4 overall with disappointing losses to Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech.

The two teams enter Saturday’s matchup in polar opposite positions however, with Louisville coming off of a blowout victory over FSU, while Virginia Tech will come in having suffered their worst loss of the season against Wake Forest.

No longer ranked in the top 25, Tech will present another huge opportunity for Louisville to prove that they are better than their record may indicate and also show the ability to string multiple great games together.

You know the players who will take the field for Louisville this weekend, but who from Virginia Tech do you need to know? We’ve got you covered.
