On February 17, 2023 Fulshear, Texas athlete Nathan Salz announced his commitment to the University of Louisville. The Louisville football program continues to add impressive talent to their roster.

The 6-foot, 160-pound athlete comes to Louisville from Jordan High School in Fulshear, Texas. He split his time between the football field and the track as a speed demon wide receiver as well as an all-nation caliber sprinter.

Salz’s plan for college was to come to a university where he would be able to continue both passions and it seems like the University of Louisville met his requirements. Prior to his commitment, he came to Louisville on multiple visits and following the latter of the two, he told Cardinal Authority the following:

"“I loved the atmosphere…Was sick about the loss. I really thought we had it. And I was really looking forward to talking more with the coaches after and celebrating in the locker room. I think those things went out the window with the loss though, which is understandable.”"

What is particularly interesting about this quote is that this is well prior to his public announcement of his commitment to the university, and he was already using the pronoun “we” to describe his relationship with the program. It seems like he knew very early on that he wanted to be a Cardinal, even despite the coaching staff overhaul.

Salz is joining a very talented wide receiver room that includes Kevin Coleman, Jamari Thrash, Ahmari Huggins-Bruce, Jahlil McClain, William Fowles, and Cataurus Hicks just to name a few. But a guy with his all-nation speed could propel him to see the field over the next few years.

A guy with his athletic ability is perfect for a coach like Jeff Brohm who has a history of developing walk-ons and turning them into all-conference type talent. For example, Devin Mockobee and Aidan O’Connell at Purdue went from walk-on status to becoming two pillars of the Boilermaker offense under Jeff Brohm.

It appears that Salz could be the very same type of player, alongside another recent Louisville football commit in Destin Cheirs.

Initially upon his commitment, it was being well circulated around Louisville Twitter that he could run a 4.36 40-yard dash, which is remarkably impressive. And to top that off, it was just reported that he ran a 10.31 100-meter dash, which was good enough to be #1 in the country.

Jeff Brohm continues to add talent to this roster and continue to structure the roster in such a way that he will not run out of athletes in a world that includes injuries. In a perfect world, everyone would be healthy all the time. But, unfortunately that is not the case.

Nathan Salz is of the latest additions to the program and it will be exciting to see him suit up in Cardinal red, potentially on both the football field and the track. If you feel a gust of wind rush by you, it very well could be Nathan Salz!
