Jeff Brohm has created a buzz around the Louisville football program that Cardinals fans haven’t experienced since the Lamar Jackson days. Not only is his offensive scheme exciting to watch, but his off-the-field recruiting ability is generating a lot of momentum.

Louisville currently has the 28th overall recruiting class, according to 247Sports. A Top-30 recruiting class is mightily impressive for a coach who has only been here for four months. One of his most impressive feats was prying three-star defensive lineman William “Woo” Spencer away from the University of Kentucky in a recruiting battle that went down to the wire.

With an already impressive roster of talent, Jeff Brohm continues to add depth to the team, and this time it is Illinois linebacker, Jake Scianna.

Jake Scianna – Inside Linebacker – Lincoln Way East High School

Jake Scianna is a 6-foot, 225-pound linebacker who has spent his high school career at Lincoln Way East High School in Frankfort, Illinois. Last season, the Griffins finished with an impressive 13-1 record en route to a nearly perfect season.

Senior Jake Scianna finished the season with 103 total tackles in 14 games played. During the 2022 season, he suffered a torn ACL at a Kansas State exposure camp prior to the season. An injury of that nature would typically require immediate surgery, but Scianna elected to play out his senior season before having surgery on it, which means he recorded 103 tackles on a torn ACL.

Scianna showed impressive heart and drive to help lead his team to a nearly undefeated season, while he was in immense pain. An injury for a high school senior is unfortunate because that’s the last opportunity for them to prove their talent to college coaches. Challenging for Scianna, he still played an entire year with a torn ACL and still found his way onto a Division I team’s roster.

Following his senior season, he received the surgery needed to repair his ACL on November 30th, which will help him move forward at the collegiate level. A connection between the University of Louisville and this high school in Illinois helped bring the insider linebacker to the Cardinals.

On April 4, 2023, Scianna officially accepted a preferred walk-on opportunity with the University of Louisville in large part due to the connection between his high school head coach, Rob Zvonar, and Louisville’s Special Teams Coordinator, Karl Maslowski. Maslowski attended Lincoln-Way High School and played under Rob Zvonar while he was there, per Steve Soucie of ShawLocal.com (subscription required).

So, this connection got the ball rolling between the two sides and once Jake visited campus, he was sold on the program. He elected to play for the Cardinals over four other programs he held scholarship offers from: Butler, Fordham, Columbia, and St. Thomas.
