2. Lack of offensive line protection
James Madison made perfectly clear from the beginning that they planned to win the battle in the trenches. And, for the most part, they did just that while the Cardinals were on offense. They continually brought pressure most of the night, stunting any rushing opportunities and hurrying Miller Moss in the pass game. The offensive line struggled over and over to contain the pass rush and be the key protection for the offense.
Louisville’s focal point all offseason was its rushing attack featuring returning sophomores Isaac Brown, Duke Watson, and Keyjuan Brown. And yes, Isaac Brown was able to find a hole and break out for a 78-yard touchdown pass to put JMU away late in the 4th quarter. However, for most of the night, there was not a hole to be found and no ground game to speak of for the Louisville offense. The run has to be established in order for the offense to be successful and for the passing attack to have more opportunities. If the offense has to rely heavily on the passing attack game after game, it may be a long season for the Cardinal offense.
