Louisville football has been off to an incredibly fast start as the transfer portal season is underway in college football. The Cardinals have had both key arrivals and departures as the 2026 football roster begins to take shape. There have been disappointing departures of players anticipated to be key pieces to next year’s team. However, those departures have easily been overshadowed by major pieces returning to the Cardinals next season, such as defensive linemen Clev Lubin and AJ Green, linebacker Antonio Watts, and above all, running back Isaac Brown.

The strategy has been evident, focus on the trenches and the key returning pieces first. The offensive and defensive lines have added multiple new commitments, shoring up the trenches for the Cardinals' next season. Now the shift needs to be at the remaining major voids in the roster. To have a complete roster capable of competing for an ACC title next season, a few positions still need focused attention from Jeff Brohm, Vince Marrow, and the Louisville football recruiting staff.

Here are three positions that need complete focus as the transfer portal period enters its final week.
