Prying Vince Marrow away from Kentucky has proven to be a boon to Louisville football recruiting. The Cardinals now have the No. 32 class in the country after flipping three-star linebacker Taj Powell from West Virginia on Sunday.
Powell was one of the many Louisville recruits who were in attendance at L&N Stadium for the season opener against Eastern Kentucky, and may not be the last to change their allegiance because of it.
While an overwhelming majority of the recruits in the 2026 recruiting class have already committed, early signing day isn’t until December 3, so the recruiting cycle is far from complete. There are still a few uncommitted players that Brohm and Marrow have set their sights on to add in the 2026 class, along with flip candidates, and even 2027 recruits who could follow after Powell’s commitments.
It may have felt like a finishing touch, but Powell’s commitment could spark another recruiting surge as the Cardinals look to close with a flurry before that December 3 finish line.
Gray was in attendance with Powell for Week 1 at Louisville, but so far has held firm to his Cincinnati commitment. The Cardinals offered the 6-foot-7, 250-pound defensive lineman on June 30, one of the later additions to his recruitment, but have made a considerable push for the 941st-ranked player in the country, according to 247Sports Composite.
With his size and length on the interior, Gray could have major upside as a developmental defensive lineman, and comes at a position of relative need in the 2026 class, which currently has just two interior DL commits.
If you thought Gray’s 6-foot-7 frame was freaky size for a defensive lineman, Khalid Worthy is still listed as a wide receiver by some recruiting services at 6-foot-7 and 200 pounds. His ultimate future is almost certainly as a tight end, but either way, he can be a difference maker in the passing game.
Louisville offered the uncommitted Georgia native in June, the most recent program to do so, and it appears that the Cardinals to competition is with Georgia State and Charlotte.
Allen Evans is one of the top players in the state of Kentucky for the 2027 class and is nearly a top 100 player in the country. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound cornerback has drawn interest from programs like Alabama and Oklahoma, so he’ll be a priority for the Cardinals to keep home. He was also in attendance for Louisville’s Week 1 blowout of the Colonels, so there’s a chance that Marrow and Brohm can parlay that momentum into a commitment.
