Louisville football recently hosted over 80 recruits at their season opener against Eastern Kentucky a couple of weeks ago, and Jeff Brohm and Vince Marrow are already hearing some good news from it. The Cardinals were able to land their first commitment from one of the top recruits who attended camps on August 30, as they successfully flipped West Virginia commit Taj Powell to Louisville.
Powell is an Ohio native in the 2026 recruiting class who is a 3-star linebacker and will now join Karsten Busch as the top two linebackers committed to Louisville for the 2026 cycle.
First, I wanna thank God, my family, my coaches, and everyone who supported me through this journey. With long thought I will be committing to the University of Louisville.@moedouglass7_sr @ConleySmoot @vincemarrow @JeffBrohm @graphicArtOf pic.twitter.com/mWOo8Xg20A

Louisville football looks to flip one more commitment
Powell is ranked as high as No. 908 in the nation and the No. 73 linebacker in the 2026 recruiting class. The Ohio native is 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, and has been committed to WVU since April.
Louisville extended its offer to him just last month and quickly earned an official gameday visit, and then his commitment two weeks later. Brohm and Marrow have now earned over 23 commitments in the 2026 cycle and are ranked No. 32 in the nation.
Powell was one of two recruits Louisville was trying to flip in Week One, as the Cards also hosted 3-star defensive linemen Jeremiah Gray. The linemen are committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats, but Brohm and Marrow are working hard to flip him to the Cardinals.
Gray ranks as high as No. 937 in the nation and No. 105 in the defensive linemen position. He has visited Kentucky, Iowa, and Wisconsin since April, but after Louisville stole Powell, the fans are hoping they can also flip Gray.
