Louisville football received outstanding news on Saturday, August 9, as one of their top commitments in the 2026 recruiting class announced he is shutting down his recruitment. 4-star quarterback Briggs Cherry announced on his social media that he is locked in and all in on the Louisville Cardinals and Jeff Brohm.

This news is massive for the Cardinals, as all summer Cherry has been trending as one of the top 2026 commitments on multiple experts' flip watch lists. The 4-star quarterback has seen his stock skyrocket all offseason after his impressive showing at the Elite 11 competitions, but now, Louisville fans can take a deep breath and enjoy his commitment.

Briggs Cherry stays loyal to Jeff Brohm and Louisville football

Cherry is ranked as high as No. 275 in the nation and the No. 12 best quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class after he dominated the Elite 11 showcases. The Cardinals' future star won the best arm award at the Elite 11 Finals, and shortly after, was put on many flip watch lists.

The Cardinals have lost multiple 4-star commitments already, including Kentucky's No. 1 recruit Evan Hampton, and the last thing they wanted was to lose their crown jewel quarterback. Cherry stated he was in contact with Ohio State for a couple of weeks and even said, "you never know there", but Brohm and Vince Marrow were able to work together and keep this massive 4-star.

The Cardinals are getting an absolute stud in Cherry, as he won the Elite 11 Panini Accuracy Challenge and broke the record. The 6-foot-4 quarterback completed 69 percent of his passes last season while throwing 2,718 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Cherry comes from the Baylor school in Tennessee, as he ranks as the No. 7 best recruit from the state. Louisville got an absolute gem in Cherry, and while the last few months were stressful with the nightmare thought of him possibly flipping, they can now watch his senior season with their feet kicked up on their desks, and bragging that he is coming to the Ville.
